An alternative energy, or more precisely an alternative energy source is one that can replace current energy or energy sources, either because it is less polluting effect or primarily by the possibility of renewal.

* Geothermal energy produced by harnessing heat from the ground in areas where this is possible.
* biomass, decomposition of organic waste, or by burning it as fuel.

Discussion / conventional is not a mere classification of energy sources, but represents a change that will necessarily have to occur during this century. It is important to note that alternative energy although renewable, are also finite, and like any other natural resources have a limit of exploitation. So even though we make the transition to these new energies to a smooth and gradual, they will not be allowed to continue with the current economic model based on perpetual growth.
