The ethyl alcohol or ethanol is a chemical produced from the fermentation of sugars found in plant products such as cereals, sugar beet, sugarcane, sorghum or biomass. These sugars are combined in the form of sucrose, starch, hemicellulose and cellulose. The plants grow through the process of photosynthesis, where sunlight, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, water and soil nutrients are complex organic molecules such as sugar, carbohydrates and cellulose, which focuses on fibrous part of the plant.
The bioethanol is produced by the fermentation of sugars contained in plant organic matter. In this process, hydrated alcohol is obtained, containing approximately 5% water, which after being dried can be used as fuel. The ethanol blended with gasoline produces a high energy biofuel with characteristics similar to gasoline but with a significant reduction pollutant emissions in traditional combustion engines. Ethanol is used in blends with gasoline in concentrations of 5 or 10%, E5 and E10, respectively, which do not require modifications to current engines.
